I've recently developed a number of my own paper flower recipes for workshops and installation projects and wanted to share exactly how I make some of them for you to try!

This is stemmed paper Gum Nut Flower, which was apart of a recent workshop I delivered with Frankston City Council.

Using the Gum Nut Flower Template, trace and cut the rectangle onto your blossom colour and the wavy design onto brown paper. do this twice - one for each blossom.

Dashed lines indicate where to fringe the piece. So cut along those suggested lines being careful to not cut all the way through.

You may cut out as many leaves as your personal preference, but to start I'd suggest 2. Pop these to the side.

To make the flower stem, take the two pieces of floristry wire and wrap them together with floristry tape.

Because this design looks best with two blossoms that you can articulate in different directions, repeat this step twice.

To assemble the blossom; place double sided tape along the top of the strip, and then attach directly onto the wire angling down as you twirl it on.

Once completed, pinch the base tightly around the floral wire before wrapping it with florist tape.

Taking your brown paper 'nut', loosen the paper by coning it around the piece.

When you've created your desired cone shape around the blossom, attach some double sided tape along the edge that will overlap, and stick in place.

Finish off by wrapping some florist tape around the base of the Gum Nut, and down the stem. Here is also where you will attach the two stems together using floristry tape.

Attach leaves as desired, and for an authentic Gum Nut look, twist the Gum Nuts over so they look like they are slumping over their vessel.
